The Jazz Studies program will foster the acquisition of professional skills in a variety of performance genres. It will offer hands-on experience of group music-making through ensembles and promote skills in the fields of: music performance and its study; musical theory and composition; library and Internet research; theoretical and applied keyboarding; theoretical and applied computer technology, multi-track recording and film scoring; theoretical and applied sound recording; techniques and practices fundamental to the music and entertainment industries; music history in general and jazz history in particular; and music as a business. | |

Students may apply for VIU’s Visual Art Diploma upon successful completion of 60 credits and a minimum Grade Point Average of 1.84. Of the 60 credits, 45 must be within the Art Department and include 6 credits of Art History with a minimum grade of “C”. Advanced students may apply for transfer credits from other institutions. | |
Students can complete up to two years towards an undergraduate degree at VIU and apply to the University of Victoria, University of British Columbia, or Simon Fraser University for two more years of study. Most Canadian universities will accept VIU’s courses. Students intending to transfer should check with the receiving institution. VIU also offers a two-year Technical Theatre diploma program. | |
This Classical Music program is two years in length, leading to university transfer in a Bachelor of Music degree at British Columbia universities. The program can also lead to a Bachelor of Education degree with a Major in Music. Students who successfully complete two years of study at VIU are eligible for VIU’s Associate in Music diploma. |
