Welcome to The Hartt School, a performing arts conservatory for music, dance, and theatre. At Hartt, we think the best way to learn and perfect your craft is by doing. That’s why we put on more than 400 performances, recitals, lectures, and master classes each year. Because our faculty are performers, scholars, and creative artists themselves—at theatres and concert halls around the world—they teach from experience, just as you will learn from your experiences at Hartt. Acoustical Engineering | The Acoustical Engineering program is a nationally recognized interdisciplinary engineering program offered in cooperation with The Hartt School at the University of Hartford. We offer an Acoustical Engineering and Music major (BSE) and a BS in Mechanical Engineering with an Acoustics concentration. |

Guitar | The Guitar Program at The Hartt School is the oldest and most developed performance-based guitar program in the country. The program offers a MM, Graduate Professional Diploma, Doctor of Musical Arts, and Artist Diploma. |
Harp | The harp studio at Hartt is a supportive community of talented, friendly harpists. |
Jazz Studies | The Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz was founded by American jazz saxophonist Jackie McLean. One of the nation’s premier jazz programs, jazz studies at Hartt strives to develop aspiring and skilled jazz musicians. |
Music | The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a music major is a rigorous academic program that combines the breadth of a liberal education with in-depth study in music. |
Music Composition | Music Composition offers degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as a minor. The program provides students the guidance they need to express their individuality through their music. |
Music History | This program enables you to explore Western music in its historical and cultural contexts. From broad survey courses to in-depth special seminars, majors, minors, you gain a comprehensive understanding of all periods of Western music. |
Music Management | When you decide to major in music management, you have the desire to pursue a strong musical and business course of study. Playing a musical instrument or being a vocalist is required for entrance to the program. |
Music Production and Technology | This program trains musicians to become music production professionals. Through study in music, electronics and acoustics, you will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work in the professional audio industry. |
Music Theatre | This program integrates comprehensive actor training with rigorous instruction in singing and dance. Weekly individual voice lessons, along with classes in ear training and music theory, provide you with a strong musical foundation. |
Music Theory | The program is designed to prepare you for graduate studies, teaching, or a research career. |
Music Vocal Performance | Technique and musicianship is the focus of vocal study. Our courses of study includes private voice lessons, coachings, vocal pedagogy, language and diction study, opera stagecraft, and our invigorating core music curriculum. |

Artist Diploma The Artist Diploma is the most advanced nonacademic performance program offered by The Hartt School. Candidates for this program will be expected to demonstrate a high level of professional accomplishment and should be in the beginning stages of a professional career. A graduate diploma, certificate, master’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited institution is required for admission. The Artist Diploma must be completed within four years from the date of matriculation. |

Graduate Professional Diploma Students of exceptional ability who wish to concentrate on professional development with a minimum of academic requirements may apply for admission to the Graduate Professional Diploma (GPD) program. A baccalaureate or equivalent degree or certificate from a recognized institution is required for admission. The GPD requires a residence of two years and a minimum of 24 earned credits. Full-time course load: 6 to 9 credits per semester. The Graduate Professional Diploma must be completed within three years from the date of matriculation. |
