Malmo Academy of Music

The Malmö Academy of Music is part of the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts at Lund University, Scandinavia’s largest institute for higher education and research, with a total of 47 000 students. We have approximately 800 students at the Malmö Academy of Music, the majority of them studying master’s and bachelor’s programmes with the aim of becoming professional musicians, composers, church musicians, or music teachers. There are also research programmes in the areas of Music Education and Artistic Research in Music, as well as a wide range of independent courses.
The Malmö Academy of Music has a highly developed international programme and a broad international contact net with prestigeous partner institutions, primarily in Europe. Many positive and close international relationships have been formed through partnerships, guest lecturers, teacher and student exchanges, and also through international recruitments.
The Malmö Academy of Music offers a creative and stimulating educational environment located in the centre of a dynamic cultural region.

BACHELOR’S LEVEL 
Classical 
Symphony Orchestra InstrumentThe Malmö Academy Symphony Orchestra performs around six projects per year under the guidance of internationally active conductors. The repertoire consists of classical, romantic and contemporary music and soloists are chosen after audition. The orchestra plays about 12-15 concerts a year, both at the Malmö Academy of Music, but also including Malmö Live Concert House and Helsingborg Concert House. The orchestra does every other year an overseas tour. The Academy collaborates with Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Opera Orchestra and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra regarding training for all master students at the performance programme for symphony orchestra instruments, and diploma students do their soloist debut togehter with Malmö Symphony Orchestra or Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra.

Vocal StudiesThe Bachelor in Music programme, Vocal Studies, aims to train musicians that possess excellent artistic and professional qualities.
PianoDuring their studies, classical pianists should develop an autonomous ability to plan, use and evaluate their musical ability. In consultation with the piano teacher, both short-term and long-term goals are to be formulated concerning, for example, repertoire and piano technique. A pianist must also be able to integrate with their environment and have an understanding of the life in music that awaits on completion of their studies.
GuitarThe Bachelor in Music programme, Guitar, aims to train musicians that possess excellent artistic and professional qualities.
Early MusicThe Performance Programme, Early Music, aims to train musicians that possess excellent artistic and professional qualities.
Jazz/ImprovisationWould you like to have the chance to develop your ability to express yourself musically and at the same time get an in-depth education which will help you become a professional musician? Would you like to set your own goals, take your own initiative and be responsible for your own musical development?
World MusicThe programme is offered to both instrument players and vocalists with a background in folk music or non-Western classical music.

Church MusicThe Bachelor in Church Music programme aims to prepare students for professional careers as church musicians within the Church of Sweden or other denominations.

Vocal and Drama StudiesVocal and Drama Studies directs its attention to singers at a high artistic level and professional ability. Auditions will be held at both Malmo Academy of Music and Malmö Opera in March.
Music Drama – RépétiteurThe Master’s programme in Music, Music Drama – Répétiteur is offered at the Malmö Academy of Music in close cooperation with Malmö Opera. The two-year programme is intended for pianists of a high artistic level and ability, and aims to prepare the student for a professional career as a répétiteur in opera and musical theatre.

CompositionThe performance programme in composition is intended for those who want to be composers with an orientation towards western contemporary art music. The studies aim to train students to become composers with a very high artistic and professional ability, and focuses on and deepens aesthetic discussions, your personal style in music, your development as well as your profile and independent position as a composer.
Church MusicThe Master in Church Music Programme aims to train musicians with excellent artistic, teaching and professional abilities.
Performance CentreThe Performance Center introduce psychological methods and knowledge that exist within performance, music psychology and sports psychology to students at the Artistic master’s programs in music.
Master’s Level, Diploma 
Interpretation DiplomaThe Performance Programme in Music – Interpretation Diploma – Master´s Level aims to educate musicians possessing an exceptionally high level of artistic and professional ability. On completion of the programme, the student must have well-developed knowledge and skills in order to work in a professional capacity in various forms – either as a soloist, a member of an established ensemble, or in freely formed groups. The student must also have developed his/her ability for independent study concerning preparation work for public concerts and performances of concert programmes. In addition, on completion of the programme, the student must have acquired well-developed entrepreneurial skills that increase his/her professional versatility in an ever-changing cultural life.
Composition DiplomaThe performance programme in composition is intended for those who want to be composers with an orientation towards western contemporary art music. The studies aim to train students to become composers with a very high artistic and professional ability, and focuses on and deepens aesthetic discussions, your personal style in music, your development as well as your profile and independent position as a composer.
Courses for International Students 
Special Area Study Courses (SAS)The Special Area Studies Courses (SAS courses) was developed in 1998 at the initiative of the International Office at the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology. The purpose was to meet the need of the increasing number of incoming exchange students who requested courses taught in English. Now the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts presents four SAS courses
Music Teacher´s Training ProgrammeThe Instrumental and Ensemble Teacher´s Training Programme offers you the skills and eligibility requirements needed for teaching music in upper secondary and primary school grades 1–9 in Sweden. It also prepares you for teaching in Sweden’s municipal culture- and music schools. Graduates will recieve a Teacher Exam of 300/330 ECTS credits. You can combine music with either another school subject or more immersive courses in music.
