Fresno State has roots dating back to 1911, when the doors of the Fresno State Normal School opened to 150 hopeful students. Today, the student population is about 25,000 and the University has garnered national attention for its rise in prestigious college rankings. Undergraduate | Each student seeking a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music must fulfill the Basic Core Requirements and all requirements listed under the music degree option which is the student’s major field of study. |
Graduate | The Master of Arts degree in Music program at Fresno State is designed to increase the candidate’s professional competence, to increase the ability for continued self-directed study, and to provide opportunity for greater depth in the chosen area of emphasis within the field of music |
Minor | The minor in Music is reserved for students pursuing a degree in a field other than music. |
Single Subject Teaching Credential | This is a state-approved subject matter preparation program for the Single Subject Teaching Credential authorizing students to teach music in grades K-12. |
Certificate in Special Study in Music Performance | The Certificate of Special Study in Music Performance is intended for those persons who wish to study an instrument or voice without matriculating for a degree. |
Music Theory and Composition | The mission of the Fresno State Music Composition Program is to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to compose music for a wide variety of venues, including music for the concert hall, television and film, and for digital media |
